Test
A PewdieCry Fanfiction
Based upon the Portal franchise

Subject Number: 2357-8467
Name: [REDACTED]
Age: [ERROR. SUBJECT AGE LOST]
Currently: Testing.
Sex: Male.
Orientation: Pansexual.
Physical Status: Able.
Life Status: Seriously injured by testing accident and neurotoxins, no sign of recovery. Consciousness has been permanently linked to a custom android so testing may continue. Voice reactors have purposefully been corrupted.
Notes: Subject is easily angered, but overall well suited for testing. If he can’t grasp the solution at first, he may just sit in a corner/against a wall and think. After an average of forty-five minutes, Subject will attempt the puzzle again.
Contract Agreement: Freedom of Loved One (concept may include subject, to be decided at a later date).

There was a slight, barely noticeable, mechanical whir as the robot left the test chamber. He stood in the elevator, the taunting voice above him having already started.
“Wasn’t that such a fun chamber?” The speakers sounded as well as they had ever. The female voice was coming through crystal clear, without a sign of cracking or tone droppage from the audio. It was a good thing, because those had always annoyed him. “Wasn’t that Companion Cube so friendly? Why didn’t you respond to it? I’m sure it would have liked a conversation. They don’t see many people, you know...”
‘She’s trying to guilt me,’ he thought harshly. ‘Don’t listen. Don’t listen. She’s just some big bully, doesn’t know what she’s doing. Artificial life. Not rea-’
“Just a reminder, as long as you’re hooked up to that android, I know your every thought and emotion. Those are some really hurtful thing you’re thinking. And I almost gave you a treat.” Her tone was a fake kind of sad. Plastic, robotic. “Well, I could always redirect him. There is the neurotoxin room… with the deadly lasers. I suppose you’d like to see your loved one die in the room you almost did, right?”
As the elevator started to lower itself deeper into the earth, the android shook his head.
“Good. Hopefully, this will serve as enough of a lesson.”

“In this next test, you will be working with a partner.” Her words confused the other being, who was also in his elevator. “Sadly, we are fresh out of available human test subjects, so you’ve been paired with a robot. You know, this isn’t our brightest AI, and yet it seems to have a higher IQ than you. How odd…”
As was her nature, it seemed. Insults.
“You know, lot’s of people have a higher IQ than me,” he commented, as if it might solve anything.
           “Not here…”

Various pieces of data clicked itself into the robot’s point of view.

Update(s): Vocal transmitter STILL corrupted.

1 New Message from [REDACTED]@AperturEmail.com: This is a reminder to all Conscious Transmission Androids who can’t talk, reminding them that they can’t talk and thus can’t communicate, and unrecognizable in any possible way. People who you love may not even be aware of your sentience, and will treat you like worthless dirt. And that you’re made simply to follow commands.
This is also a reminder that I posses the ability to change the dosages your near-death body receives at any time, and end your life and semi-free existence in the hollow, mechanical shell that is now your body. And you’ll never get any cake.
Keep on testing,
xoxo

If he could sigh, that’s what the robot would have done. He started running a translation for the binary. Better safe than sorry, but he had some idea of what it was already.
The doors behind him opened as he scouted out potential portal placements, and he vaguely registered the footsteps behind him. That was, until a voice behind him spoke.
           “Um, hi.”
He turned around, and waved slightly at the human.
“Did I mention this one has corrupted speech capacitors?” her voice yet again came from the speakers. “It was the only choice. He kept complaining about the tiniest details. They were so irrelevant, it shouldn’t even bother someone. But it did. It bothered him.”
The human couldn’t help but laugh at that.
“Give him a name to address you by,” she was still as controlling as ever.
“But he can’t talk…” the human countered.
“Right now your guns aren’t calibrated. Tell him your name, and I will calibrate them.”
“Fine,” the human sighed. “My name is Felix, but you can call me Pewds.”
“Version 78, why don’t you tell him your name? Oh wait. You can’t.” She let out some very robotic laughter. “Good luck. Your Portal Guns are now fully linked up. Now, some personality cores are acting up...”
Pewds looked at Version 78. “Shoot a portal,” he commanded plainly.

“Version 78 will be accompanying you throughout the next few test chambers,” Pewds heard as the elevator started its descent. “It’s his farewell gift. He’s leaving the facility soon.”
“You’re letting a robot leave the facility?” he questioned.
“Hmm… did I ever mention what kind of robot he is? No?” She began explaining. “He’s an Aperture Advanced Custom Consciousness Transmission Android, Version C. He is actually sentient, you know. A test subject that sustained too many injuries, so while their body heals, we use the AACCTA to further testing. Same human touch, much more efficient.”
           “Y-you mean that he’s real?”
           “Aren’t we all?”

“Hey, I’m sorry,” Pewdie tried to apologize to the android. “To be fair, I didn’t know you were alive. The robot-lady never told me!”
‘Don’t even know her name?’ Version 78 thought. ‘I’m not surprised.’
“Do you think you could somehow tell me your name?”
Version 78 held up a finger, and a piece of paper printed from his chest. the human picked it up.

           “Um, I don’t know… is that binary?”
Version 78 looked away, realizing he’d failed again.
“This is a reminder to all Custom Consciousness Androids in the facility that sharing your real name with any personality cores or other test subjects will result in a shut down.”
With wide eyes, Version 78 took the paper from Pewds, crumbled it, and threw it as far away as he could. Which was actually pretty far.
           “Shut down?” Pewds asked.
With his best acting, Version 78 pretended to get stabbed. Albeit, it was his own hand doing the stabbing, but the point got through.
           “They kill you?! That’s terrible!”

The android fidgeted, and waved his arms around in panic as romantic music suddenly began playing from previously unused speakers designated for speaking. He tried to cover them, but Pewds just laughed.
“You’re too funny, you know that?” he asked him.
If he could, Version 78 would have blushed, or at least said something in response.

“Hey, um, Version 78?” Pewds questioned, earning the most reaction he could from the robot. “I was wondering, what was your life like before… here?”
A piece of paper printed from the android.

I had a few friends. They were pretty good, so I liked them. And a boyfriend, I had one of those too. Man, was he a good boyfriend. Hot. Very hot. He was nice and all those things too, that was also amazing about him.

“What happened to you two?” Pewds asked. “If you liked him so much, why’d you come here?”

Well, Felix, it’s very simple. I chose to date an idiot. The call of… testing was too strong for him, and next thing I knew, I hadn’t seen him in months. Months turned to years… Years and years until I finally worked up the nerve to call the labs and find out what happened.

They promised to let him out if I tested enough. They haven’t yet, but I can’t give up hope.

Pewds giggled. “So you’re a little hero, huh?”
The android crossed his arms. His childish anger lasted for but a moment, when signs began flashing in front of his eyesight, blocking out the smiling figure above him. A stinging pain placed itself in his chest, and it felt like he was being ripped apart.

Goodbye.

Version 78 screamed, and the voice was his. He fell over, bringing his hands to his head. Quickly, though, he found himself unable to shout in pain anymore. There was someone talking. He felt like he had to listen.
           “...at’s wrong?”
What’s wrong? Was that what he was being asked?
Why, what could ever be wrong?
           Oh wait. Everything.
           “Sh-she’s killing me…”
“No, no…” Tears built up in Pewdie’s eyes. “It’s you, isn’t it? Cry?”
           Cry nodded. “Always… gyah… has been…”
“How could I have been so blind?” he said to himself. “It was you? Wow, I’m just the best boyfriend ever. To think, you were here the entire time.”
“Don’t blame yourself,” Cry whimpered quietly. “She’s good at keeping people in the dark. It’s not your fault.”
           “But this is…”
“No. If anyone’s, it’s mine. I... nn... told you.”
Pewdie looked away. “I just wish I could see you again…”
“It’s not a pretty sight, t-trust me,” Cry couldn’t help but chuckle a little. “Or maybe it’s not. I haven’t seen myself in a while.”
           “Cry…”
           “I just… one last hug?”
Pewdie wrapped his arms around the robot, ignoring the coldness.
           “Goodbye... Pewds.”
           Suddenly, the android stiffened.
           “Cry?"
This fanfiction is dedicated to :iconxxcookiedough47:, who is sadly still with us. Everyone personally affected by this has my support.
She also hates having her feels broken, and loves PewdieCry.
And I needed a reason to finally have a weekly shipfic in which the ship wasn't on the main shiplist.
Two birds with one stone.

Good times, good times.

Oh? You need a translation for the binary? Heck if I care, go find a translator.

And the last update there says:
Body passing on
Voice reactors enabled
